FAQ
Which phones does PVJ run on?
PVJ runs on Android phones. We test on the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 9a. If you try it on another phone, tell us how it went, especially the frame rate and projector output.
How do I connect a projector?
Use a USB-C to HDMI adapter (or a USB-C dock with HDMI). Your phone needs to support video out over USB-C, also called DisplayPort Alt Mode; many recent flagship phones do, some budget models do not. Once connected, PVJ sends the clean output to the projector and keeps the controls on your phone.
How do I get my clips into PVJ?
PVJ plays what is in the clips folder you chose on first run (Movies/PVJ, usually) and in the folders directly inside it. Copy clips there from a computer, or import a starter pack straight from its zip with LIB ▸ SOURCES & LIBRARY ▸ IMPORT PACK (.ZIP)…. The folder is re-read when you come back to the app; RESCAN CLIPS FOLDER is there for a file replaced under the same name. Free packs are at c-u.studio/tools/pvj#starter-pack.
Does PVJ need an internet connection?
No. PVJ works fully offline and does not request internet access. That also means it never uploads anything.
Why does PVJ ask for the camera and microphone?
Only for the features that use them: the camera as a live video source, and the mic for audio reactivity and BPM detection. Both are processed live on the phone and never leave it. You can deny either and the rest of the app still works.
Where are my set recordings saved?
In PVJ's folder on your phone. They are ordinary video files and never uploaded anywhere.
Can I use PVJ with TouchDesigner?
Streaming PVJ into TouchDesigner via PVJ-Touch is coming in the Pro version, along with LED output, tracking and OSC.
